Ploughman’s lunch: the easy British lunch
Cheese, bread, pickle and salad. No cooking, and a very good lunch.
What you need
- A good wedge of Cheddar
- Crusty bread and butter
- Branston Pickle
- A few slices of ham
- A boiled egg, halved
- A crisp apple, sliced
- Lettuce, tomato and cucumber
- Pickled onions, and salad cream or mustard to finish
How to make it
- Boil the egg for 8 to 9 minutes, cool it under cold water and peel it.
- Put the cheese, bread and butter on a board or large plate.
- Add the ham, egg, apple and salad.
- Spoon the pickle on the side, with the pickled onions.
- Finish with salad cream or a dab of mustard, and eat it with your hands.
Build it to suit what is in the fridge. That’s the whole idea.
